Alaska King Salmon on Willy Creek

A rare catch on Willy Creek today when Wildman Lake Lodge guest, Guy Binette, was fly fishing for Sockeye Salmon, using his 8 wt line. This nice King Salmon grabbed the pink bunny fly and took Guy for a long ride to the end of his backing. Our guide, Peter Caloon, holds the bright King Salmon for a quick photo with Guy, Camille and Francois, before releasing her back the Wildman waters. It is rare to catch a King in this tributary of the Ocean River system, accessible by boat from the lodge. “We catch just a few Kings here, while fishing for other species,” says lodge owner, Gary “Butch” King. “So we always release them, so that they have a chance to spawn.” We would like to thank our very special guests from Quebec, Canada! You were delightful!
