Here Mary and Dordeck Thompson enjoy a unique sight of an estimated 5,000 huge male Pacific Walrus. Each week, our guests have the opportunity to visit our nearby Pacific Walrus haulout. This is an incredible experience, enjoyed by very few humans, most of which are guests, right here at Wildman Lake Lodge on the remote Alaska Peninsula. Posted on: September 13, 2012 Returning to Wildman, many for the third time, is our friends from Toledo, who enjoyed a peak silver salmon and rainbow trout week during mid-September. Both on the local river and on the fly out fishing days, this week's anglers enjoyed limit catches, and even more catch and release for bright Silver Salmon, colorful, FAT Rainbow Trout and scrappy Arctic Char, and NEVER SAW A SOLE that they didn't have breakfast with. Another excellent week at Wildman Lake Lodge on the remote Alaska Peninsula. Posted on: September 2, 2012 Fishing for Alaska Silver Salmon is a specialty at Wildman Lake Lodge. During the week of August 24th, our anglers enjoyed several bluebird days with limit catches of dime bright Silver Salmon. The run is building on the lower river, accessible by jet boat from the lodge, and several of our nearby fly out rivers are receiving excellent runs. We expect the run to peak in mid September this year. Posted on: September 2, 2012 Hunting Ptarmigan at Wildman Lake Lodge is a passion, not a pass time. Actually a two-for! It was a total Fin and Feather trip for the Potters. Lots of birds, salmon and trout. Great weather, lots of flying, floating and food at Alaska's premiere fishing, hunting and wing shooting lodge. www.wildmanlodge.com
Posted on: August 13, 2012 Wing shooting in Alaska is underway at Wildman Lake Lodge, as the ptarmigan season opened on August 10th. Upland hunting for Willow Ptarmigan with our well trained Brittany pointers is a perfect combination with fly or spin fishing for salmon, trout and char. Our Cast & Blast packages are available each August at this time. The bird numbers are good this season and our wing shooters are having good success, whether on fly out, walk out or boat out guided hunts. Wildman Guide Aaron Lawson is handling Veni and Heidi for a picture of this mornings hunt for Rob, Dr. Vince, Jarred and Ken who had a good morning hunt at Wildman Lake Lodge. Posted on: August 8, 2012 Alaska Arctic Char and Dolly like these are prolific during early August is outstanding on dry flies, wet flies or nymphs. Posted on: July 15, 2012 As July heads in to August, it is time for the Wildman Lake Lodge crew to shift gears, into our fall season. This is a wonderful time at Wildman Lake Lodge. As the midnight sun fades, also does the King and Sockeye salmon runs. With thousands of red salmon now on their spawning beds, the Alaska brown bear show up on our streams, where the pickin' is good for ripe red salmon in shallow water. The entire Alaska Peninsula is now lush green, marking the beginning of the Chum and Pink Salmon runs, emergence of the young ptarmigan and the tundra becomes colored with thousands upon thousands of brilliant wild flowers. This week, the Wildman Lake Lodge crew enjoys a week alone, preparing for the arrival of next weeks guests and a busy fall season. Posted on: July 15, 2012 Jim Curry of London, England shows a very nice Alaska King Salmon, just before releasing it back to the river. On his first trip to Wildman Lake Lodge, armed with two Spey and one single hand #6 fly rod, Jim landed countless Arctic Char, Rainbow Trout and released more than a dozen King Salmon. " I had my best day ever on Char, only to be topped by a full day on Rainbow Creek. Then the King Salmon on my Spey Rod was the best fishing I ever experienced" Jim told me before departing after a weeklong stay at Wildman Lake Lodge. Jim has already reserved this week for next year! Posted on: July 15, 2012 A great picture of releasing a wild native rainbow back to Rainbow Creek. We practice strictly "catch and release" when it comes to our local rainbow trout fishery here at Wildman. Imagine a three mile long trout stream with only two or three anglers, all of whom you had breakfast with. That is a day at Wildman Lake Lodge on Rainbow Creek. Wild native trout, in wild Alaska waters. This trout's for you, he will be in the creek when you arrive. www.wildmanlodge.com Posted on: July 14, 2012 The run is still running, and we are still catching bright Kings, during our fourth King Salmon week at Wildman Lake Lodge. Our King fishing will close, along with the rest of the Bering Sea drainages, on July 25th. Here our friend Dewy shows a nice chrome King, as head fishing guide Jesse stands by with the net. We kept just a few Kings today and released a bunch. Our runs have been doing quite well this year, but conservation of this fragile species is important, as many Alaska rivers are having weak returns in recent years. Posted on: July 14, 2012 Some of Alaska's finest small water fly fishing for wild native rainbow trout is available at Wildman Lake Lodge. Here Ethan Hale of Arizona shows off a nice Leopard Rainbow. One of several he caught this morning on a "Mouse" that he tied himself. We enjoy outstanding fly fishing for native rainbow, both top water and wet, from June through September. Catches of 20 to 30 rainbow a day are not unusual, and you don't have to cast like Curt Gowdy to catch them either. Posted on: July 9, 2012 This week started off with an epic day of King Salmon fishing at Wildman Lake Lodge. Our anglers enjoyed limit catches and even more salmon released. The Spey Rod fishing was outstanding, as was spinners, spoons and single handed fly rods. Kings ranged from 24 to 42 pounds. Posted on: July 7, 2012 A Jack King is a King Salmon under 20 inches. This is anything but a Jack, caught by our guest Jack Rother today on a flyout King Salmon fishing day at Wildman Lake Lodge. We estimated Jack's King at 37lbs. Nice catch on this chrome bright King Salmon, just in from the frigid waters of the Bering Sea. Posted on: July 7, 2012 Mark Rose, James Harden and Logan pose with a limit catch of Sockeye Salmon on the lower river today. Thanks Mark for bringing your brother, Gary, and the rest of the Texas Crew on this 4th of July week at Wildman Lake Lodge. Posted on: July 6, 2012 A rare catch on Willy Creek today when Wildman Lake Lodge guest, Guy Binette, was fly fishing for Sockeye Salmon, using his 8 wt line. This nice King Salmon grabbed the pink bunny fly and took Guy for a long ride to the end of his backing. Our guide, Peter Caloon, holds the bright King Salmon for a quick photo with Guy, Camille and Francois, before releasing her back the Wildman waters. It is rare to catch a King in this tributary of the Ocean River system, accessible by boat from the lodge. “We catch just a few Kings here, while fishing for other species,” says lodge owner, Gary “Butch” King. "So we always release them, so that they have a chance to spawn." We would like to thank our very special guests from Quebec, Canada! You were delightful! Posted on: July 6, 2012 Wildman Lake Lodge guests are enjoying generous sockeye salmon limits during the 4th of July Week on the Alaska Peninsula. For those of you sweltering in the Lower 48 States, we are wishing for a little Global Warming here in Alaska. The glaciers are safe with us this season as anglers are bundled up, but catching fish. Sockeye salmon are the prized table fish, demanding the highest price on the commercial market. The Sockeye run is thick on our home river during June and July. Posted on: July 3, 2012 This huge male Alaska King Salmon was landed by Nancy Branchaud on her first Alaska fishing adventure. Nancy was fishing on the Alaska Peninsula with Gary “Butch” King of Wildman Lake Lodge. The King, stripped line well into the backing before it reached the far bank of the river. It was quite a battle, regaining line on the reel, which eventually ended in the demise of this giant male King Salmon, netted by Pilot Guide, Chad Johnson. This big King, estimated at forty pounds, was the largest landed today by our seven anglers, who flew out of the lodge this morning. Weather was text book, calm winds and partly cloudy. We look forward to bringing you more King Salmon action during this 4th of July week. Posted on: July 2, 2012 No trip to Wildman Lake Lodge would be complete without a visit to Wally World, a nearnby Pacific Walrus haul-out where 500 to 5,000 huge walrus frequent our local beach, only 10 minutes by air from Wildman Lake Loge. Wildman Lake Lodge is the gateway to seeing and photographing these magnificent sea mammals along the Bering Sea coastline, in their natural habitat. Posted on: July 2, 2012 Houston Safari lClub friend, Lloyd Swiedom has already caught his limit of Alaska King Salmon today, so he is on "catch and release." Lloyd, seen here releasing another King Salmon on the late June trip with Butch and Kathy King at Wildman Lake Lodge on the remote Alaska Peninsula. Posted on: June 26, 2012 Jon Morey could not get "one jump" ahead of Sandy Fish today, although he made up in volume (six kings). Sandy still go the best Alaska King Salmon of the week at Wildman Lake Lodge on the remote Alaska Peninsula. At Wildman Lake Lodge we alternate fishing days between King Salmon fishing and Sockeye, Char and Rainbow. Every day is an Aleutain Adventure at www.wildmanlodge.com Posted on: June 29, 2012 With much of the State of Alaska being plagued by closures and reduced limits, King Salmon fishing at Wildman Lake Lodge is holding its own. Anglers are enjoying good King Salmon fishing on our local rivers, keeping just a few for table fare, and releasing the excess. Chrome bright Kings are being caught on flies, spinners and spoons by our guests during our first week of the 2012 King Salmon season at Wildman Lake Lodge. Here, lodge owner, pilot and guide Butch King holds a nice bright King for Katie, who is enjoying a day off from her regular duties at the lodge. This is one of several Katie caught today on her signature lure, a "Katie Pink" #6 Vibrex with a silver blade. BEAT THAT JON! Posted on: September 12, 2011 The clear artesian waters at Wildman Lake Lodge produce some Alaska's very best Char and Dolly fishing. This year was an exceptional one, with many big char in the 10 to 12 pound range. Of course we thought last year was exceptional too. We just can't get used to the size of the fish here. Everyone a thrill and catching one after another most days. Steve Claiborn landed this beautiful dolly being held by Wildman river guide, Greg Gio............. Last week near Wildman Lake Lodge. NOTE: Gary "Butch" King is no stranger to big Dolly Varden. He set the IGFA All Tackle World Record in 1991, 16lbs.-12oz. It is mounted on the wall at Wildman Lake Lodge. Mike & Ryan Southworth, Bill Ward, Jon & Bob Legallet and Don & Gene Brewer and Mike Battaini, most of who were at Wildman Lake Lodge during the 911 attack, should know when the fishing is hot. See our 5 day Cast & Blast Specials for 2012. We have already reserved a deluxe couples room with private bath, for Alan and Cheryl during next year’s Cast & Blast. Posted on: August 30, 2011 Candy caught a Dandy with Wildman fishing guide Greg Gio. in what we call the Aquarium, where the artesian springs bubble up at the head of our river, 20 feet deep and clear to the bottom. We didn't get a scale on this beauty, and others in the group claimed they had larger ones get away. But in our experience, we never saw a small fish get away. Congratulations to Candy and the entire Brownlow family on their second August Cast & Blast trip to Wildman Lake Lodge. We hope to see you again next year.
