When is the Best Time to fish at Wildman Lake Lodge?

June 19 to July 17 - Big Time Salmon, Trout & Char: This is the PEAK SEASON for the King and Sockeye Salmon run in our Bering Sea drainages. We enjoy a full eight weeks of King Salmon fishing on the Alaska Peninsula with, generous limits and NO CLOSURES. Bright Chum Salmon are available in the latter part of this period, as are large Dolly Varden, Arctic Char and wild, native Rainbow Trout. Several Steelhead are caught during our early king salmon season and this is also an excellent bear and walrus viewing time.

July 17 - August 7 - Alaska Fishing Action: King, Sockeye, Pink, Chum Salmon and perhaps some early arriving Silver Salmon.  Catch the "Alaska Grand Salmon Slam" plus Arctic Char, Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. More salmon species than any other period in the season.  This is also the peak time for boat fishing for huge King Salmon.

August 14 to August 28 - Cast & Blast Time: Our area hosts an abundant population of Willow Ptarmigan. With hunting season opening August 10th, this is Alaska's most popular upland game bird and a great time to combine bird hunting with some of Alaska's finest clear-water sport fishing. Salmon choke the river and are surrounded by Char and Rainbow Trout.  Hunting License & shot gun shells are available in our gift shop at the lodge.

August 28 - September 25- Silver Strike! Our local river system may be best known for its fantastic Silver Salmon fishing. Arriving in mid-August and continuing into October, the aggressive Silver Salmon provides plenty of fast action on flies or lures. During this time our local artesian river system is teeming with Rainbow, Arctic Char and Dolly Varden.

OUR SEASON: Wildman Lake Lodge will begin the 2011 fishing season in mid-June and continues through September. We offer seven day / seven night deluxe sport fishing packages. Shorter stays available on request.

More Information:

• What's Included: We provide comfortable twin accommodations and delicious family style meals. Our week long packages include: three days of fly-out fishing, three days fishing via our jet boats with experienced guides and unlimited bank fishing walking distance from the lodge is available before and after your full guided fishing day.
• What's Not Included:  Cost of fishing licenses, king salmon stamps, airline transportation to and from Wildman Lake Lodge, excess baggage charges by other carriers, shipment of sport caught fish beyond our lodge, liquor, fly fishing equipment, fishing tackle, lures, flies, personal clothing and footwear or gratuities for our staff. State Law prohibits us from providing complimentary beer, wine or liquor to our guests. So, BYOB.  Your favorite beverages are available in King Salmon, just a block from the PenAir terminal where you will change planes on your way to Wildman.
• Taking Home Fish: In the spirit of conservation, we ask our guests to limit the amount of fish they take home. We strongly advocate "catch and release" of our native trout species. If you wish to take fish home, we will happily clean, vacuum pack, and freeze your salmon, then pack it in waxed seafood boxes for your trip home.

• Fishing Equipment: Both fly fishing and spin cast fishing are excellent at Wildman Lake Lodge. Fishermen may bring their favorite rods, reels or use the lodge spinning equipment. Our favorite lures and flies are available in the lodge gift shop. A complete gear list is provided upon booking your trip. We have a gift shop with most everything you might need and a fully stocked fly tying table at the lodge for your use.  See Sport Fish Gear List!

• Travel: Plan to arrive in Anchorage the day prior to your arrival date at Wildman Lake Lodge. Daily flights from Anchorage to King Salmon, Alaska are available on Peninsula Airways, a commuter service for Alaska Airlines. PenAir also provides turbo-prop service from King Salmon right to Wildman Lake Lodge.  Each season we reserve seats on these flights for our guests.  Upon booking your trip to Wildman Lake Lodge, we will give a PenAir confirmation code.  With this code, you may then call PenAir toll free to purchase your airline ticket from Anchorage to Wildman Lake Lodge and return.  Our special round trip fare from Anchorage is $798.00 per person in 2010.   Similar 2011 fares and codes will be available from PenAir in January of 2011.
